This Text contains many useful resources for teaching writing. There are sample lessons which include step by step instructions on how to conduct the lesson plans. Also, each lesson plan includes a section where there is 1-2 paragraphs on how to modify the lesson if/when there are students with special needs in the classroom. Through looking at literature state standards I realized that there are a lot of key standards that we use day to day. For example, “ Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.”. In college we write many papers not just in English class. In these papers the instructions usually state to cite evidence to support your claim. Citing evidence is something that makes our claims more credible by including POV’s from other scholars. In the Literature Standards at each grade level from 6-12 this is the first standard on the list. Yet, after every grade the standard is more detailed. This is something I think is great because students might struggle with the concept of citing evidence, but if they are doing it every year from 6th grade through 12th grade then they will be practiced by the time college comes around.
